Florida needs to reform its funeral and cemetery laws.
Accountability would be improved if both regulatory boards were place under one agency that reports directly to the Governor.
All funeral & cemetery contracts should fully disclose what is being purchased and when it will be delivered.
Laws should be enacted to match the severity of the crime.
All cemeteries should be required to complete a site plan before selling grave spaces.
Identification tags should be placed on the inside and outside of burial containers.
All funeral merchandise must be delivered within 180 days, or payment is refunded, unless the purchaser agrees to an extension in writing.
The legislature should require the examination of pre-need sales agents and require criminal background checks.
The legislature should oppose any attempts to require consumers to pay processing fees, cemetery inspection fees, monument reinstallation fees, or cemetery maintenance fees.
The new regulatory agency should enforce all laws and regulations and aggressively prosecute corporate fraud.
The regulatory agency should maintain a 1-800 number for consumers to file funeral and cemetery complaints.
