Hey, Answerman! All About Writin'
Well! Welcome, welcome, to this week's Answerman.
So, is it just me, or do all these newer Superhero movies have the same problem in their third acts? They spend all this time working over all the various sub-plots and side character arcs in the first two-thirds of the movie - noble hero learns their destiny, grows into their powers, discover that their strength makes them duty-bound to protect the innocent, and they learn to abandon their arrogance for the simplicity of love, etc. - while they waste time making supervillains that are supposed to be tragic, sympathetic figures, only to turn into incredibly unconvincing Supremely Evil Beings 15 minutes before the end? I'm watching Thor, and I'm thinking - okay, alright, they're trying to make Loki a legitimate trickster, with a Shakespearean tragedy for an upbringing. Yeah, I'm cool with this. And then! I'm supposed to buy at the last second that all of that doesn't really matter because he's evil and just wants to destroy everything for some reason. Some convoluted reason that doesn't work because character motives in big stupid comic book movies have to be filtered through no fewer than five or six different plot threads, instead of being clean and simple natch), but I'd hesitate to call either one of those shows "hits." Nonetheless, all it really takes is an intrepid publisher willing to take a risk.
And on the subject of risks, I should probably mention that publishing a light novel is hardly the easy-money venture people seem to think. First of all there's the fact that these books need to be translated - and we're talking books here, not manga or subtitle tracks. Every single line needs to be translated accurately, and then proofread and copy-edited and assembled into contemporary English. And then of course comes the printing process - not cheap - as well as the fact that brick-and-mortar bookstores are slowly dying, and you can see what I mean when I call it a "risk."
That said, Narita's novels are filled with genre-bending violent insanity of the sort that I, personally, would love to read, in English, as a damn book that I hold in my hands. And if books published, I really can't think of any one specific reason that Narita's books can't be released in a similar way.
Hey, Answerman!
I've been following the column for a while. And I was wondering... if there's any way if I could be a future Answerman myself, or help out. Yeah, I know, it's probably not going to happen - you, or ANN probably already have someone lined up just as how you replaced Zac, and I know the ANN careers section is pretty blank right now. But I figure I'd give it a try.

And that process extends even into the layout phase - which is where the "Key" animators draw the significant poses for each scene, and they're able to extend their own personality to the project by adding subtle movements, poses, or expressions.

I would hope for a mid range "Cube like" computer only because I'm looking to upgrade soon. It would need to be priced below the US$2299 that the quad core Mac Pro configuration is (to avoid a repeat of the G4 Cube). It should have comparable specs to the 24" iMacs (core 2 duo 2.4GHz and core 2 extreme 2.8GHz) and be priced a couple hundred dollars below its iMac equivalents. I wouldn't see the product as a Mac mini replacement which is largely a sealed box but indeed a true headless iMac sans the display and with PCIe graphics. The poor kid simply hit the "cash" button before typing in the total. I used to work at BB (now an attorney), so I feel sorry for the kid. The OP committed retail theft by knowingly leaving the store with a product he didn't pay full value for (differentiated from receiving a computer by mistake because of the intent requirement). If the kid is not fired he will surely be written up and never able to move upward in the company to get things like health insurance and other benefits. What's worse is that this is the time of the year when BB takes on a lot of new hires. I also disagree with his thought that the 'average person' wouldn't care about the safety and security of their children on cyberspace. Utter rubbish. The 'average person' wants re-assuring that cyberspace is totally safe before they let their kids use it. The 'average person' wants full control over what their kids can and can't do on cyberspace. The 'average person' also doesn't really know the difference between a conversation with a pedo over messenger, and a conversation with an actual friend. Man, that is a crummy little house by Silicon Valley standards if I ever saw one. I live in the neighboring town (Portola Valley), which is essentially the same as Woodside, and hence know many homes in the area (including the one I live in). And by current standards around here, not having a private bathroom for EACH bedroom, and a LARGE closet, is pretty substandard. Also, to only have *1* walk-in in the master rather than 2 is not good. No home theater? Large gym with panoramic views? Sauna/steam room/? Sun room? Library? Detached guest suite or guest house (in-law/nanny quarters, etc.)? Swimming pool? Hot tub? This honestly doesn't look like a place where a man of his caliber would be living full-time. Of course his house in Palo Alto isn't huge, either, but at least it is charming, historic, enchanted.
